Fiona emigrated from Scotland to Nova Scotia in 1968. Graduated from St. Francis Xavier University. For over 30 years, Fiona worked in Ottawa within Canada’s federal departments, House of Commons and Senate of Canada, learning the inner workings of how government works.

In Ottawa, she met and married Murdock MacLeod. They have been married for 29 years and have two children: Megan (25) and Lauchlin (22). Murdock’s family is strongly committed to the riding of Cape Breton-Canso, operating tourism businesses in Inverness County for over 50 years as owners of the MacLeod’s Beach and Campsite, Inverness Beach Village and MacLeod’s Inn.
