Biography

Ron McKinnon was first elected in 2015 as our Member of Parliament for Coquitlam–Port Coquitlam. Since, Ron has worked hard to make life more affordable for families in our community, protect our environment, and support our most vulnerable.
Recognizing that an opioid crisis seized British Columbia, Ron introduced a Private Members Bill in the last Parliament, the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act. His legislation became law in May 2017,after receiving unanimous all-party support in both the House of Commons and the Senate. The new law is now saving lives by encouraging people to call 911 in a drug overdose event, and helps ensure the health and safety of people what matters when someone calls for medical assistance in the instance of a drug overdose.
Ron serves as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Health, a critical Committee to keep Canadians safe and healthy during this pandemic. He has also participated in many important studies to move forward on priorities such as National Pharmacare, the Cannabis Act and antimicrobial resistance.
Ron has been a strong voice for our community since his election in 2015, and he will continue to fight for the people of Coquitlam–Port Coquitlam.
