Biography

Born and raised in Port Colborne, Vance spent over 35 years in the private sector – a 4th generation operator of the family business, Badawey Marine Ltd. Founded in 1922 by his great-grandparents, Badaweys grew from a Mom and Pop grocery store to a ship chandler that provided commissary services to the shipping industry and food distributor that met the needs of the food service sector. Vance also founded Vance Badawey & Associates Inc., a firm dedicated to recognizing operational opportunities and establishing and implementing corporate strategies for a wide variety of clients from the public and private sectors.
Vance began his career in public service as a City Councillor for the City of Port Colborne in 1994, and then as Mayor of the city for four terms (1997-2003, 2006-2014). During his tenure, which included serving as one of the city’s representative at Niagara Regional Council, he served on numerous local, provincial, national and bi-national agencies, boards and commissions, including the Niagara Regional Police Services Board.
Vance was also a community volunteer with the Port Colborne Kinsmen Club, United Way, the Knights of Columbus and coached youth hockey and soccer.
Vance continues to reside in Port Colborne with Leanna. He has two daughters, Logan and Jordan, and two grandchildren, Hudson and Harper.
Vance is a two-term (2015 – present) Member of Parliament for the riding of Niagara Centre, which includes the municipalities of Port Colborne, Welland, Thorold, and south St. Catharines.
Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and is the Vice-Chair of the Canada-United States Interparliamentary Group. As part of the Canada-United States IPG, Vance focuses on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence, which works to protect the economic, environmental, and social aspects of the largest surface of fresh water in the world.
Vance is also a Member of the House of Commons Liaison Committee, and a Member of the Senate/House Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.
Vance looks forward to continuing to work with the many dedicated members of our community in Niagara Centre.
