Biography

A mother, wife, volunteer, lawyer and small business owner, Alison Lester is committed to being a champion for each and every member of the Northumberland—Peterborough South community.
Alison was born and raised in Cobourg, Ontario, raised to understand that service to community was fundamental. Alison earned an LL.B and a Bachelor of Civil Law from McGill University and graduated in 2005, and she was called to the Ontario Bar in 2006. From 2005 to 2012 she worked at Gilbert’s LLP, an intellectual property litigation firm in Toronto.
In 2011, Alison returned to her hometown of Cobourg to use her passion and advocacy skills to help local organizations achieve their goals, where she went on to form her own practice in association with two other lawyers. Alison is an active member of the Northumberland County Bar Association, having served as a member of its executive for seven years, including two years as its president.
Alison is a devoted and long-time community volunteer. She is a past chair of Westben Festival Arts Theatre, located in the Municipality of Trent Hills, and has worked with the Northumberland Help and Legal Centre and the Peterborough AIDS Resource Network (PARN). She currently sits on the Northumberland Hospital Foundation’s Planned Giving Committee and sings in Safe Harbour, a community chamber choir.
Alison has one son, Peter, and a step-son, Noah and she and her husband Todd have been married since 2015. As our Liberal candidate for Northumberland—Peterborough South, Alison will put her well-rounded professional and community experience to work in Parliament as an advocate for arts and culture, justice, jobs, and a green economy.
