Biography

"Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Jean-Jacques worked in a number of fields prior to undertaking his academic studies. He raised fowl on a farm, worked in the oil patch of Alberta and renovated dwellings. He was also an amateur actor and a double-bass player in Sudbury. In his late twenties he earned a degree in Music – for which he was awarded the Governor-General’s Silver Medal for academic achievement, and Bachelor’s degree in Education. After teaching for a few years, Jean-Jacques undertook legal studies at the University of Ottawa, earned an LL.B. in 1995 and after very successful articles in Hawkesbury, was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1997. He also obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA-International) in 2001.

He has been practicing law since 1997 in numerous fields including administrative law, agricultural law, commercial and corporate law and family law. He was also a senior policy analyst at the Canada Revenue Agency. He’s been active in many non-profit organisations and sits on the Boards of a number of community foundations in Ottawa such as the Fondation franco-ontarienne, Fondation Jean-Claude Bergeron (bursaries) and the Fonds Richelieu Fondateur. He is a Bencher of the Law Society of Ontario, the regulator of the legal professions in Ontario."
