Biography

Françoise Raunet has spent decades advocating for healthy ecosystems, peace and electoral and economic reform. Her frustration with government inaction and toxic partisanship prompted her to enter politics. A teacher and community builder, Françoise believes in bringing people together to solve common problems. As an MP, she will work to move to a post-carbon economy, strengthen democratic institutions and reduce economic and social inequality. Having grown up in Vancouver and lived abroad, Françoise speaks French and English fluently, and can converse in Spanish and Mandarin.

With more than 25 years of experience in education, publishing and community services, Françoise is a teacher who lives in co-operative housing along the Fraser River with her husband and their daughters. She has an MA in International Studies from SFU.

Françoise joined the Green Party in 2009. She believes that the federal government, as the “gatekeeper of globalization,” has an important responsibility to protect critical ecosystems and local jobs. As an MP, Françoise’s priorities will be public housing, ecosystem protection and rehabilitation, community-based economic networks, public transportation, electoral reform and local food supplies.
