Biography

Diandra Bruised Head was raised on the Kainai/Blood Reserve, and currently serves as a Councillor for the Nation. She received her Renewable Resources Management diploma from Lethbridge College and a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Lethbridge. Much of her background has been geared towards land management with traditional and Blackfoot cultural lenses.

Diandra worked as the Climate Change Coordinator for her Tribe prior to her Councillorship, where she helped raise community awareness around climate change adaptation and mitigation projects, alongside other members of the Kainai Ecosystem Protection Association (KEPA). This led to rallying a collective stance for the reclamation and restoration of Native Prairie Grasslands. Joining the efforts of the Iinnii Initiative and Buffalo Treaty, Diandra and the members of KEPA helped to bring a herd of Plains Bison to the Nation’s native grasslands in 2021 for community cultural revitalization and ecological rebalancing.

During her career, Diandra has been asked to sit at multiple tables to discuss concerning climate change issues and the social impacts they have on our communities. These include: Alberta Environmental Network, Energy Futures Lab, Alberta Wilderness Association, Grasslands Roadmap Summit, Rural Routes to Climate Solutions, and the Nature Based Climate Solutions Fund Advisory Committee. She has presented at many conferences on the work that KEPA and Partners are doing in Southern Alberta.

Diandra believes there needs to be a stronger focus on community-led solutions that holistically address climate change adaptation and mitigation, innovation, education, employment opportunities, and helping others — the vulnerable, the youth, the elderly. Implementation of solutions will need to Make Room for Nature, and keep in mind the well-being of 7 generations in the future from now.

Diandra lives on the Blood Reserve with her toddler boy.
