Biography

Angela Downey is a health care worker with a passion for making a difference.

A Continuing Care Assistant who has worked in long-term care for over 18 years, Angela is a dedicated advocate for workers, her community, and human rights.

As a child growing up in Pockwock, Angela spent her summers with her grandmother who was First Nations from the Gold River Band and married a man of colour. Learning from the barriers they faced, she hopes to inspire people the way others have inspired her – to find their voice and achieve their dreams.

Concerned that the Lucasville community was shrinking, Angela joined the Lucasville Community Association and became the organization’s Vice President. She was recently elected to the Unifor Atlantic Executive Council; her workplace activism extends to the Aboriginal and Workers of Colour Committee and other committees.

Angela is proud to call Lucasville home, where she lives with her spouse of 25 years.
